The latest edition of WinDOT, The Pipeline Safety Encyclopedia was released in March 2000. Once again we have expanded the list of available standards and provided the most current versions of pipeline safety regulations and references.

What's new in this release!

The GPTC Guide now includes Addendum No. 1 to the 1998-2000 Edition, which was approved by ANSI in July 1999. This is the most current version of the Guide available as of March 2000.

The 1999 National Fuel Gas Code is included with a subscription to WinDOT. The new edition contains over 100 technical, format and editorial revisions reflecting current equipment, materials and installation practices.

"The code is a must have for anyone involved in the installation of fuel gas piping, appliances and equipment," said Paul Cabot, AGA standard program administrator and the secretary of the American National Standards Institute committee that updates the code. Cabot said the code is currently updated every three years.

The National Fuel Gas Code is the governing code used by local gas utilities and officials of federal, state, and local governments to judge the acceptability of fuel-gas installations. The code is also referenced by appliance manufacturers as part of their installation instructions.

Changes contained in the latest edition of the NFGC include combustion air (unusually tight construction; combination indoor/outdoor option; and duct construction and installation); venting (Type B vents in masonry chimneys; and sizing criteria for appliances equipped with dampers); and pipe installation (revised leak detection).

The Historical Rulemaking file has been renamed Regulatory Reference. This file contains the complete history of code sections 49 CFR 190 - 199 and Part 40. This section also includes the following:

  • October Semi-Annual Regulatory Agenda
  • Active Rulemakings, those items in the agenda that are currently active
  • Miscellaneous Federal Register Notices, items published that did not amend the regulations
  • Federal Register Interpretations worksheet
  • Federal Register Waivers worksheet
  • Risk Management information

Several Standards have been added or updated:

  • API 6D Pipeline Valves (Gate, Plug, Ball and Check Valves)
  • API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspection Code
  • API 650 Welded Steel Tanks for Oil Storage
