Guidance Manual for Operators of Small Natural Gas Systems

Training Guide For Operators Of Small LP Gas Systems

The U.S. Office of Pipeline Safety promotes the safe transportation of natural gas by pipeline.  These guidance manuals for operators of small natural gas and LP systems is part of our commitment to pipeline safety.  The manuals were developed to provide an overview of pipeline compliance responsibilities under the federal pipeline safety regulations.  They are designed for the non-technically trained person who operates a master meter system, a small municipal system, or small independent system.

Guidelines for Developing an Operator Qualification Program

The Small System Operator Qualification Guide Material Project was part of a national effort initiated by the United States Department of Transportation, Research and Special Programs Administration, Office of Pipeline Safety.
In April of 2003, a team of individuals representing the liquid pipelines, natural gas industry, and regulatory representatives from around the country, were tasked with development of guidance for small system operators of liquid and natural gas systems, to comply with the Operator Qualification (OQ) Rule.
