1996’s Hot Products and Services

The changes taking place in the natural gas industry are indicative of the products and services about which you most often requested information this year. The requests did not cover what used to be considered the core needs of the industry—pipes, fittings, tools, and meters—although these were on the request list. Nor were most requests for information about NGVs, deregulation, or recovery systems, although these were also high on the list. And, residential needs— furnaces, fireplaces, and ranges —were also among the top 20. But the most requested information concerned a computer software program for keeping up with regulations. Here are the 20 hottest products and services of the year, according to your peers.

Regulations software

#1 DOT pipeline safety regulations for the past 20 yrs. are available with the click of a mouse, for faster, easier search and interpretation with ViaData Inc.'s WinDOT, The Pipeline Safety Regulations for Windows. A free demonstration disk on Part 191 is available for this easy-to-use help package. The software runs on CD-ROM for Windows-based personal computers, and is linked to the Office of Pipeline Safety Interpretations. A full test and keyword search help users quickly locate pertinent code sections and interpretations. Code sections can be copied to the clipboard, printed, or inserted into other applications. An annotation function allows the user to add personal notes to the code without changing the code or interpretation text.

All DOT annual reports and incidents reports are included and can be completed on the screen and printed to any compatible laser printer. WinDOT subscribers will receive all Office of Pipeline Safety notices, advisory bulletins, and pipeline related Federal Register material as well as periodic updates to the software.
