Windows Vista and Windows 7 Installation Instructions

When you attempt to open a WinDOT product, you may receive this message:

ViaData LP

If so, you will need to download the WinHelp engine from Microsoft's site since it is not distributed with Vista or Windows 7.  There is also a registry tweak needed that gets handled as part of the process.

The instructions are at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607

Scroll down to the Blue tab Resolution and click on Download WinHlp32.exe for Windows Vista or Windows7 as appropriate

The Vista/Windows 7 installation will be validated, and then the download can be done.

Choose the download for either the 32-bit or 64-bit as appropriate for your machine.  There are instructions in the article that will tell you how to determine which machine you have. You then chose ***x-64.msu for the 64-bit version or ***x86-msu for the 32-bit version

Go back to the very first screen of the Knowledge Base article and scroll down until you see the blue tab on the left – More information for advanced users

Look for How to enable macros on a single computer after you install the WinHlp32.exe Expand this by selecting Click here to view or hide a detailed automated solution , then click on the Fix It button below and that will do the registry tweak.

Be sure you have done BOTH steps for WinDOT to work properly,
